NORTH RONALDSAY SHEEP PUNDING
Dependent on the New Moon Tide this takes place either at the end of July or the beginning of August. The locals of North Ronaldsay work together to round up the sheep from the beaches to take them inland for the winter.

'ORKNEY IN THE 12TH CENTURY: EARL ROGNAVALD AND HIS EARLDOM' EXHIBITION
This exhibition gives a taste of what Orkney was like during the Viking occupation. It draws upon the archaeology of the islands along with detailed history and its legacy of literature. Held in the Orkney Museum at Kirkwall. Admission free.

ST MAGNUS FAIR & WIDEFORD HILL RACE
Fund raising event for St Magnus Cathedral. Produce and homebaking stalls, teas and coffees and face painting and the the Rotary Club Flyer for the kids.

THE HOPE SHOW, ST MARGARETS HOPE, SOUTH RONALDSAY
A great day out to be had at the local agricultural show. Lovely beaches, excellent range of local crafts, and eating places.

THE WEST MAINLAND SHOW, DOUNBY
Stock showing and judging, show jumping, sporting competitions, side-shows, music and stalls. Fancy dress parade is held in the evening.

THE COUNTY SHOW, KIRKWALL
This is the biggest event in the Orkney agricultural calendar, with stock showing, judging and show jumping, a wide variety of stands and stalls, sporting events, and entertainment.

Horses and riders process via Scapa Beach, to re-assert the Kirkwallians ancient right of Admiralty and Jurisdiction.

Display of vintage cars and tractors, steam engines and motorcycles, held at the Orkney Auction Mart.

SOUTH RONALDSAY BOYS PLOUGHING MATCH & FESTIVAL OF THE HORSE
This ancient spectacle re-enacts the traditions of the heavy horse ploughing matches. Children dress in beautiful, ornate costumes to replicate the horse in it's finery and the boys plough with minature ploughs in the sand.
